Bamboo Backing Strips

Our bamboo is the highest quality Moso bamboo available for bow making.


When we cut our bamboo strips to length, we use reference blanks for optimal node placement. This Moso bamboo has an average of 12" spacing between the nodes.


We provide our bamboo in a variety of options, from raw split planks, to planed flat and ready to glue-up.  The new pricing options for ordering multiple backing strips provides you with a better price, the more you order.

Bamboo Backing Strip - Raw - 2" x 72"

This is our standard bamboo backing strip. When we say Raw, we mean that the strip/slat is not planed flat on the inner surface, rather it has the raw, cancave inner surface, just as it grows. They are seasoned 1-2 years. Measure 2" wide by 72" long and are 1/4" to 11/32" in thickness. If you need a bamboo backing strip longer than 72", see below for an extra long option.

These ready to glue-up Bamboo backing strips are planed and sanded flat on the belly to achieve an even taper from mid-section to tips. They are ready to glue-up to your core. They come in several styles to cover popular bamboo backed bow designs. We are sorry, but we do not offer mutliple quantity discounts for the ready to glue-up bamboo backing strips.

Styles/Bow Design

Details of the Ready to Glue-up Styles/Bow Design


Flatbow - 1.5" x 72" - These are wider near the handle (~1.5") and tapering in both thickness and width to the tips (~1"). They are 72" long and can be trimmed in length to suite your needs. Thickness varies from crown to edges and from middle to tips from 3/16" to 1/8". These are for pyramid or slightly parallel limb longbows and recurves.


Longbow - 1.25" x 74" - These are roughly the same width (1.25") the entire length (76"). Thickness varies from crown to edges and from middle to tips from 3/16" to 1/8". These are great for building a simple bamboo backed longbow of common lengths and draw weights


Warbow - 1.5" x 84" - These are long (84") and wide (1.5"). They do taper in width slighlty towards the tip.  Thickness varies from crown to edges and from middle to tips from 1/4" to 3/16". They are slightly higher in price due to oversize shipping fees. These are for heavy warbow stlye longbow builds.

Extra Long Bamboo Backing Strip - Raw - 2" x 86"

This is a long (84") version of our popular standard bamboo backing strip. When we say Raw, we mean that the strip/slat is not planed flat on the inner surface, rather it has the raw, cancave inner surface, just as it grows. They are seasoned 1-2 years. Measure 2" wide by 84" long and are 1/4" to 11/32" in thickness. The prices of the Extra Long Bamboo Backing strips include an oversized shipping fee, that is why they are priced more than the standard.
